Ben, Quilla and I were travelling in the car back from Ben's friend Matt's 40th birthday in the Blue Mountains. It had been very hot, around 28 degrees and sunny but we could see a line of black sky getting closer and closer. It started to rain heavily and wind gusted through the car. I had to do up the windows, much to Quilla's disapproval (she gets car sick).
The next thing we knew, the car was being pelted by golf-ball sized hail! (We later found out it was tennis ball sized in Blacktown, not far away.) Ben steered the car to a stop under a (thankfully close) flyover, where we, along with quite a few other cars sheltered and waited for the storm to pass.
I took this video (matts_40th_at_mount_wilson_blue_mtns_017.mpg) from the safety of our car. Yes, I am in the back seat with Quilla. Yes, she is the world's most spoiled bitch :)
We passed cars shortly after with smashed back windows so I think we had a lucky escape!
